PROJECT OVERVIEW |
Centered around Fort Collins, Colorado, Poudre R-1 School District is the steward of many historic properties, related and unrelated to education. The Fort Collins school district (District No. 5) began like many in the west: one teacher in one room of a log house. But the district soon gained a reputation for innovation, introducing the first kindergarten west of St. Louis in 1880 and opening a high school in 1889. Poudre School District today is comprised of District 5 and numerous rural districts. This project includes the development of a historic context and an intensive-level survey of 30 district-owned properties. It is funded through a Certified Local Government grant and is model of intergovernmental cooperation, jointly administered through Poudre R-1 School District and the City of Fort Collins.
